VIPERS SWARM PAST GREENSBORO IN 116-110 VICTORY

Edinburg, Texas (March 8, 2023) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (13-12), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, obtained a 116-110 victory over the Greensboro Swarm (8-17) on Wednesday night at Bert Ogden Arena. 

Both teams battled it out during the first few minutes of the game. With 8:09 left in the quarter, the game was tied 10-10. After that, Greensboro pulled away with a 22-19 lead, but with 3:15 to go RGV came back and took a 23-22 lead. For the remainder of the quarter neither team led with more than three points. At the end of the first Greensboro led 32-31. 

RGV opened the second quarter by going on a 7-0 run which allowed the team to take a 38-32 lead. The Vipers continued with the advantage until the clock hit 7:41 and the Swarm took a 43-42 lead. Greensboro then came from behind and tied the game 46-46 at 6:40. The Swarm kept the lead until the clock hit 3:35 and tied the quarter 53-53. RGV then ran away with the lead and sent the game into halftime with a score of 67-61. 

The third quarter tipped-off with RGV having the lead, but things quickly changed when the clock hit 7:33. Neither team had a secure lead as the quarter was tied four times. With less than four minutes to go RGV turned things around and gave the team back a 92-89 lead. 

For the first three minutes of the quarter RGV led by as many as six points. Greensboro then turned the game around and tied it up 97-97, but not for long as the Vipers came back for the lead which earned them a 116-110 victory. 

Houston Rockets Two-Way player Darius Days paved the way for the Vipers with a double-double, 26 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Lecque came off the bench and scored 20 points. Houston Rockets assignment, TyTy Washington Jr. and Cassius Stanley put up 14 points. Jarrett Culver earned a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Houston Rockets Two-Way player Trevor Hudgins also put up 13 points. Ray Spalding finished the night with 10 points. 

Greensboro was led by Charlotte Hornets Two-Way player Theo Maledon who put up 24 points. Trevon Scott scored 20 points followed by Xavier Sneed with 16 and James Bouknight with 15. Jaylen Sims contributed 13 points and Kobi Simmons put up 10 points. 

RGV continues the action tomorrow, Thursday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. CT as the team welcomes the Iowa Wolves to the Bert Ogden Arena. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Vipers bucket hat presented by HKC Law Firm. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com
