VIPERS SPLIT WITH CAPITANES

MEXICO CITY, Mexico (March 27, 2024) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (19-13), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, fell 104-100 to the Mexico City Capitanes (17-15) on Wednesday night at Arena CDMX. 

At 5:17 the game became tied for the third time. At 4:25 Mexico City jumped over the Vipers and closed the first quarter at 28-20. The Capitanes kept the momentum going into the second quarter which resulted in a 51-47 lead for the home team at the half. 

In the second half of the game the Vipers started making a comeback in the third quarter, but in the fourth quarter the Capitanes tipped-off the quarter by going on a 9-0 run which set the game at 84-71. Mexico City had a lead as big as 13-points, but RGV cut it down to four points with less than two minutes to go and a score of 93-89. Despite the Vipers efforts, Mexico City earned a 104-100 victory. 

Houston Rockets Two-Way Jermaine Samuels Jr. paved the way for the Vipers with 21 points. Jalen Lecque finished with 20 points followed by Jarrett Culver with 19 points. 

Louis King led Mexico City with 29 points. Iverson Molinar put up 18 points. Both Phillip Wheeler and Malique Lewis finished with a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds each. Kenneth Faried also had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. 

The Vipers return to the Bert Ogden Arena for back-to-back games against the Salt Lake City Stars starting on Friday, March 29 followed by game two to be held on March 30. Tip-off for both games is slated for 7:30 p.m. CST. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com.
