VIPERS SECURE 126-119 VICTORY OVER LEGENDS
FRISCO, Texas (Jan. 19, 2024) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (7-1), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, obtained a 126-119 victory over the Texas Legends (6-3) on Friday night at Comerica Center.
Things got off to a slow start in Frisco as the first bucket of the game (2-0) landed until 10:42 in favor of RGV. At 6:32 the Vipers followed behind Texas with a score of 10-7 and trailed for the remainder of the quarter which set the game at 29-25.
Texas continued on the rise in the second quarter, but RGV halted the team with 6:49 on the clock and tied the game 39-39. For the next four minutes the lead fluctuated among both teams. However, for the remaining two and a half minutes the Legends took back control of the quarter and sent the game into the half with a score of 58-54.
After halftime Darius Days elevated the Vipers to the top with his 14-point quarter which resulted in the Vipers outscoring its opponent 40-19. At the end of the third, RGV held a 94-77 advantage over the home team.
With less than three minutes into the fourth the Legends went on a hot 15-0 streak and clipped the Vipers lead to two points which set the game at 94-92. The Legends continued to inch in on the Vipers, but in the end the outcome was 126-119 in favor of the visiting team.
Days led the Vipers with a double-double with a season-high 32 points and 10 rebounds. Just shy of a double-double was Jarrett Culver with 30 points and nine rebounds. Houston Rockets Two-Way Jermaine Samuels Jr. also had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Ray Spalding contributed 11 points from off the bench.
Justin Jackson paved the way for the Legends with 23 points. Posting a double-double were Dallas Mavericks Two-Way Greg Brown III with 19 points and 15 rebounds and Dallas Mavericks assignee Olivier Prosper with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
