VIPERS POWER THROUGH IN LEGENDARY KIDS’ DAY GAME

EDINBURG, Texas. (Dec. 12, 2023) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (8-5), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, finished the day with a 124-120 victory over the Texas Legends (5-9) on Tuesday afternoon at Bert Ogden Arena during its annual Kids’ Day game. 

The first five minutes of the game were a tight race among both teams. After multiple lead changes the game was tied 15-15 with 7:28 to go. After that the Legends pulled away with the lead and made the score 31-28 at the end of the first. 

In the second quarter Texas continued to extend its lead and sent the game into halftime with an 11-point lead and set the game at 69-58. 

RGV came out with full force in the third quarter and minimized the Legends lead to just one point. Going into the fourth the Legends led 93-92.

At the start of the fourth quarter the Vipers hit a hot streak and took over the lead. The team led by as many as eight points and remained with the lead until the end of the game which resulted in a 124-120 victory for the Vipers. 

Houston Rockets assignee Cam Whitmore led the Vipers with a double-double with 33 points and 10 rebounds. Jarrett Culver put up 20 points. Houston Rockets Two-Way Jermaine Samuels Jr. also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Houston Rockets Two-Way Nate Hinton finished with 17 points followed by John Knight III with 14 points. 

Jordan Walker led the Legends and all scorers with 36 points. Theo Pinson posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 assists. Justin Jackson contributed 14 points followed by Taze Moore with 13 points. Both Tony Bradley and Joe Wieskamp put up 11 points. 

RGV will hit the road to take on the Austin Spurs on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 3:00 p.m. CST at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Fans can stream the game via NBA TV. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com
