VIPERS OPEN HOME SCHEDULE WITH VICTORY OVER BIRMINGHAM
Edinburg, Texas (Nov. 11, 2022) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (1-1) locked in a 112-104 win against the Birmingham Squadron (0-2) on Friday night at Bert Ogden Arena. The Vipers held a pre-game ring ceremony to commemorate their 2021-22 NBA G League Championship before their loyal fanbase.
The first quarter was a back and forth battle between the Squadron and Vipers. After numerous attempts the Squadron was able to pull away with a two-point lead at the end of the first sending the game into a score of 39-37.
The battle to the top continued in the second quarter with a tight race between both teams, but the Squadron were able to grasp a 1-point lead sending the game into halftime with a score of 59-57.
During the third quarter the battle for the lead continued. Despite a tight race, Birmingham pulled away with a 2-point lead at the end of the third with a score of 82-80.
Despite the lead from Birmingham, the Vipers offense turned up the heat and went on to score 32 points while only allowing the Squadron to put up 22 points. The team was then able to pull away with a 112-104 victory over Birmingham.
Houston Rockets Two-Way player Trevor Hudgins splashed 10 three-pointers, tying the all-time single game franchise record for RGV, he ended the night on 30 points. Louis King posted 22 points followed by Houston Rockets Two-Way player Darius Days who hit a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Cassius Stanley hit 13 points and eight rebounds. Also, hitting double digits was Houston Rockets assignee TyTy Washington.
Javonte Smart led the Squadron with 23 points, six rebounds and six assists. James Kelly Sr. obtained a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Daeqwon Plowden reached 16 points and seven rebounds. New Orleans Pelicans Two-Way player Dereon Seabron and Jordan Swing posted 14 points. Kalob Ledoux closed the night with 10 points.
