VIPERS DROP HOME GAME AGAINST MEXICO CITY

Edinburg, Texas (Nov. 223, 2022) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (3-3) fell 116-112 on Wednesday night against the Mexico City Capitanes (6-3) at Bert Ogden Arena. 

Mexico City put up the first two points of the game, but then the Vipers went on an 11-0 run to take an 11-2 lead. RGV continued to maintain the lead and sent the game into the second quarter with a score of 27-21. 

As the second quarter progressed RGV maintained its lead. The biggest lead of the quarter was by 14 points when the Vipers led 51-37, but the Capitanes shortened that lead at the end of the second and sent the game into halftime 60-52. 

In the third quarter Mexico came back from an eight-point deficit and tied the game 66-66. With 7:07 still left on the clock the Capitanes took its first lead of the game with a score of 68-66. Mexico hit the ground running and continued to grow its lead. By the end of the third the visiting team led with a score of 85-81. 

During the fourth quarter the Vipers managed to tie the game 88-88, but shortly after Mexico took back a 97-96 lead. RGV continued to push for the lead and with 3:47 left on the clock the Vipers hit a 3-pointer giving back the home team a 104-102 advantage. Despite the Vipers efforts, Mexico City pushed back and took home a 116-112 win over the Vipers.

Houston Rockets Two-Way player, Trevor Hudgins, led the night with 29 points. Louis King hit 24 points and five rebounds. Houston Rockets assignee, TyTy Washington Jr., posted 16 points and six assists. Houston Rockets Two-Way player, Darius Days, rounded up the double digits in scoring with 10 points and eight rebounds. 

Mexico City was led by Jahlil Okafor with a double-double 30 points and 10 rebounds. Also hitting a double-double was Mason Jones with 23 points and 12 assists. Bruno Caboclo also scored 23 points. Alfonzo McKinnie had 16 points and five rebounds.  

The Vipers will go on the road for a back to back matchup against the Texas Legends. The first game will be on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The game may be live streamed via the nbagleague.com website.
