VIPERS DEFEAT SOUTH BAY WITH CULVER LEADING THE WAY

EDINBURG, Texas (March 23, 2024) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (18-12), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, came out victorious with a score of 116-107 against the South Bay Lakers (16-14) on Saturday night at Bert Ogden Arena.  

The Vipers and Lakers fought for the lead in the first five minutes of the game. After that, RGV climbed to the top and sailed away with a 39-27 advantage. 

In the second quarter the Lakers started to inch in on the Vipers. What was once a 12-point lead for the Vipers, turned into a seven-point deficit for South Bay which set the score at 72-65 at the half. 

South Bay and the Vipers both had low scoring quarters in the third. The Vipers scored 14 points while South Bay scored 13 points to end the quarter 86-78 in favor of RGV. 

With a score of 103-102 the Lakers attempted to make a comeback, but the Vipers ended walking off with a 116-107 victory. 

Jarrett Culver led the Vipers with 37 points. Houston Rockets Two-Way Jermaine Samuels obtained a double-double with 11 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Jalen Lecque put up 19 points followed by Trhae Mitchell with 17 points. 

Shaquille Harrison led the Lakers with 24 points followed by Bryce Hamilton with 21 points and Los Angeles Lakers assignee Maxwell Lewis with 20 points.
