VIPER SUFFER FIRST REGULAR SEASON HOME LOSS

Edinburg, Texas (Jan. 6, 2023) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (1-4), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, dropped its first regular season home match 115-104 against the Sioux Falls Skyforce (3-2) on Friday night at Bert Ogden Arena. 

Sioux Falls jumped to a quick 7-2 lead to begin the game, but it did not take long for the Vipers to minimize that lead to only one point and a score of 12-11 with 6:10 left to go. RGV then came back and tied the game 17-17, but the Skyforce quickly turned things around and walked away with a 27-23 lead at the end of the quarter.

With 9:17 left in the second quarter the Vipers came from behind and took a 34-33 lead. RGV maintained the lead until less than five minutes remained on the clock. Sioux Falls then went on a 6-0 run and tied the game 44-44. A three pointer then allowed Sioux Falls to take a 47-44 lead. Soon after, the Skyforce regained the lead and sent the game into halftime with a score of 56-50. 

The Skyforce kept the lead throughout the third quarter which resulted in a 94-82 lead for the visiting team. RGV pushed until the end but were unable to come back which resulted in a 115-104 loss for the home team.

Houston Rockets Two-Way player Darius Days led all scorers with a double-double 32 points and 12 rebounds. Jalen Lecque finished with 27 points followed by Houston Rockets Two-Way player Trevor Hudgins with 15 points and Trhae Mitchell with 12. 

Jamaree Bouyea and Mychal Mulder led Sioux Falls with 27 points each. Miami Heat Two-Way player Jamal Cain obtained a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds. DJ Stewart obtained 18 points. 

The Vipers return to the court tomorrow night for a rematch against the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 7:30 p.m. CT at Bert Ogden Arena. Fans can stream the game via www.NBAGLeague.com or Somos El Valle 5.3. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com
