KING AND HUDGINS LEAD VIPERS PAST AUSTIN IN SEVENTH STRAIGHT WIN

Edinburg, Texas (Dec. 7, 2022) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (10-3), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, obtained a 107-95 victory over the Austin Spurs (4-9) on Wednesday night at Bert Ogden Arena. 

RGV led the majority of the first quarter, but with 4:13 to go the Spurs hit a three and took its first lead of the game with a score of 17-16. The Vipers responded by taking back the lead, but Austin once again tied the match 25-25 with less than two minutes to go. As the quarter came to an end the Vipers grasped a 32-29 lead. 

The Vipers led for the first seven minutes of the second quarter but with five minutes still left to go, the Spurs came back and tied the match 46-46. RGV quickly turned things around and took a 53-51 advantage, but with only 20 seconds to go Austin came back and tied the game 53-53. Before heading into the half, Mustapha Heron hit a three-pointer right at the buzzer and gave the Vipers a 56-53 lead. 

During the third the Vipers continued to extend its lead. With 5:43 to go the Vipers led 69-57, but with 42 seconds to go the Spurs hit a three and took the lead back. With less than 30 seconds to go the Vipers came back and scored two points taking back the lead 78-77.

Austin and RGV fought back and forth during the fourth. With 8:40 to go the game was tied 83-83. Despite multiple lead changes, RGV managed to pull away and obtained a 107-95 victory over the Spurs.  

Louis King and Houston Rockets Two-Way player Trevor Hudgins each ended the night with 17 points and a combined 13 assists. Heron put up 14 points from off the bench. Trhae Mitchell finished the game with a double-double 11 points and 15 rebounds. Houston Rockets Two-Way player Darius Days, Willie Cauley-Stein and Ray Spalding ended the night with 10 points each. 

Chaundee Brown Jr. led all scorers with 26 points. San Antonio Spurs Two-Way player Dominick Barlow posted 17 points followed by Greg Malinowski with 13. 

The Vipers will go on the road to take on the Lakeland Magic at RP Funding Center in back-to-back matches on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 with both games tipping off at 6:00 p.m. CT. Fans can stream both games via NBAGLeague.com.
