VIPERS AQUIRE DRAFT PICK IN TRADE WITH LEGENDS

EDINBURG, Texas (March 1, 2024) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that the team has agreed to trade Matthew Mayer to the Texas Legends. In exchange, the Legends have agreed to trade its second-round pick in the 2024 NBA G League Draft to RGV. This trade is not subject to a physical.

Mayer (6-9, 225) appeared in 29 games for the Vipers. In the 15 regular season games played he averaged 4.2 points and 1.3 rebounds. Mayer participated in 14 showcase games averaging 4.4 points and 1.9 rebounds. 

Prior to his arrival with the Vipers, Mayer averaged 2.5 3FGM on 43.5% shooting for the Houston Rockets during summer league.

He spent his first four collegiate seasons with Baylor before finishing as a graduate student with Illinois. For the Fighting Illini Mayer averaged 12.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.2 blocks and 2.0 3-pointers made. He helped the Bears win the NCAA Championship in 2020-21.
