Vipers announce 2016-2017 Schedule

The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers, affiliate of the Houston Rockets, today announced the 2016-17 season schedule, the tenth season for the Vipers. This year’s schedule features a total of 50 games, including 24 home games at State Farm Arena, 24 games on the road. The complete 2016-17 schedule can be found below.

The Vipers will open the season at State Farm Arena on November 13 against Reno Bighorns, followed by a November 15 game against Maine Red Claws. RGV will travel to Los Angeles on November 17 for the team’s first game on the road. The Vipers stay in California to face Santa Cruz Warriors on November 18.  The last home game will take place on March 30 against Texas Legends. Rio Grande Valley Vipers will finish the season on the road against Iowa Energy on April 1.

Rio Grande Valley Vipers will play two games at the annual NBA D-League Showcase in January. The NBA D-League All-Star Game will return to NBA All-Star festivities for the 2017 season. The annual Kid’s Day Game returns on December 13 against Westchester Knicks.  The Kid’s Day Game rewards students through the team’s Perfect Attendance and Honor Roll programs. RGV will also host the Seventh Annual All-Valley Showcase on March 25. The top high school boys and girls from the Rio Grande Valley will play each other in a west vs. east game prior to the Vipers’ game against Salt Lake City Stars.

“This season is a very special season for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The Vipers will be playing their tenth season! We are excited for the forthcoming season and hope to have an exciting year and keep providing family entertainment here in the Rio Grande Valley.” Vipers president Bert Garcia said. “The community has always supported us and we look forward to having their support throughout our tenth season.”

RGV Vipers head coach Matt Brase returns to lead the team’s tenth season. Brase took the RGV Vipers to playoffs in the 2015-2016 season. Before taking the reigns as head coach of the Vipers in the 2015- 2016 season, Brase spent the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons as the Director of Player Development for the Houston Rockets.

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers will play each team in their conference four times, two home games and two away games, for a total of 40 games. The remaining ten games will be against teams from the opposing conference. The ten games will be split into five home games and five away games.

In the Western Conference, Austin Spurs, Iowa Energy, Oklahoma City Blue, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Sioux Falls Skyforce, and Texas Legends make the Southwest Division. The Pacific Division includes Northern Arizona Suns, Salt Lake City Stars, Los Angeles D-fenders, Reno Bighorns, and Santa Cruz Warriors. In the Eastern Conference, Delaware 87’ers, Erie BayHawks, Greensboro Swarm, Long Island Nets, Maine Red Claws, and Westchester Knicks complete the Atlantic Division. The Central Division comprises of Canton Charge, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Grand Rapids Drive, Raptors 905, and Windy City Bulls.
