STRONG SECOND HALF LEADS VIPERS PAST MEXICO

Mexico City, Mexico (Nov. 21, 2022) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (3-2) picked up a thrilling 120-115 victory against the Mexico City Capitanes (5-3) on Monday night at Mexico City Arena. 

Both teams fought for the lead in a tight first quarter with five lead changes and six times tied. With five minutes on the clock RGV had a slight 16-14 lead. The Vipers continued to have advantage of the game for the remainder of the quarter until 44.8 seconds were left on the clock. The Vipers 29-28 lead was quickly changed to a 32-31 lead for the Capitanes. 

In the second quarter both teams wanted to be captains of the game, but it was not going to be an easy journey. With the clock reading less than nine minutes the game was tied 38-38, but not for long. The visiting team went on a scoring streak and took a 49-44 lead. RGV maintained its lead until halftime with a score of 60-56.

Mexico City was coming back with a mission in the third quarter. With just three minutes into the quarter the Capitanes tied the game 67-67, but the Vipers turned up the heat. At the end of the third RGV led 88-84.

The fourth quarter was a fight to the finish as both teams were determined to take the win. With nine minutes left on the clock, the game was tied 94-94. Shortly after with 5:11 left in the game the Vipers went up 105-104. With 4:17 remaining, the game went back to being tied 108-108. The remainder of the quarter was a back and forth lead change amongst both teams, but in the end the Vipers came out victorious 120-115

Louis King led the way for the Vipers with 30 points and five rebounds. Houston Rockets assignment TyTy Washington Jr. put up 27 points. Houston Rockets Two-Way players Darius Days and Trevor Hudgins posted 22 and 14 points, respectively. 

Gary Clark led the game and the Capitanes with a double-double 39 points and 17 rebounds. Jahlil Okafor followed with 24 points and eight rebounds. Mason Jones hit a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists. Alfonzo McKinnie finished the night with 14 points.
