Blair to Barbados National Team

EDINBURG, Texas (Mar. 12, 2020) – The Barbados Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) announced today that they have appointed Devan Blair to head coach of the Barbados’ Senior Men’s Basketball team.

Blair stated, “I am honored that Francis Williams and the BABA are giving me this tremendous opportunity. I believe that this step we are taking together demonstrates to the rest of the world that Barbados is committed to making basketball a priority for their country now, and into the future. I could not be more excited for this opportunity and I am ready to get to work.”

Having visited Barbados previously in 2016 as part of the Digicel Jumpstart Camp. “Upon my first visit in 2016, it was clear that the people of Barbados had a passion for basketball. From the children to the coaches, everyone wanted to learn and absorb as much information as they could in the three days that the Jr. NBA afforded us,” Blair said.

Blair is currently the Rio Grande Valley Vipers assistant coach who originally joined the Rockets staff in 2015 as an assistant video coordinator. In 2017, he was promoted to head video coordinator. As the video coordinator, Blair would break down all games for opponents the team faced. Blair would update and maintain all opponent special situation databases and assisted maintenance of the Rockets video playbook.

Late in 2018, Blair was promoted to the Rockets offensive strategy team under head coach Mike D’Antoni and assistant coach Brett Gunning. As the offensive strategy and video coordinator, Blair collaborated with both D’Antoni and Gunning for all offensive scouts and ATO plays for the team.

Prior to the Rockets organization, Blair served as a basketball operations intern for the Indiana Pacers in 2014. In his role as the basketball operations intern, Blair assisted the scouting department, prepared draft boards, researched players and assisted the analytics department maintain their database.

From 2011-14, Blair was the men’s and women’s basketball manager at his alma mater, Indiana University Bloomington. As the team’s basketball manager, he broke down opponent games, assisted in on-court workouts and did video scouting.

No tournament has been scheduled yet due to the coronavirus pandemic.
